From the Principal
Joseph Welsh School has been developing how we can best share with our community what we are about in our school. Working with students, staff, and families we have come up with a new motto, logo, and mascot.
Our motto is “Building Connections In All We Do”. A great deal of thought has gone into this statement. It has been refined to show that we build connections with our learning. This is, of course, the core of our school. Building connections to real life and our past learning is essential.
We build connections with our self. We believe strongly in self-care and wellness. Our HART team is a group of dedicated staff and students that lead us to stay healthy physically and emotionally. We build connections through our health program and our Community Liaison Worker. These connections are also supported in our new school song that our students have developed.
Connections are built with others. Our students are leaders in learning and providing support for other students. Buddy reading, precision reading, and leading recess games are three examples of how we connect with others within our school.
The fourth focus area is building connections with our community. Our students' shovel walks for neighbors (when the weather isn’t too cold), raise money for local, national, and international charities, and are raising awareness through our connection to UNESCO. Our students also spend time with residents in the Michener Extendicare in our Adopt-A-Grandparent program.
The school has adopted a new logo and mascot. The new motto, logo, and mascot reflect what we do in our school and community.
